Wild Thing

7 Feb

I’m getting itchy feet already- it’s a good thing I’m going adventuring again next week! I’ll be doing my famous tennis ball impersonation- zooming South, then North and back South again in just four days. Still- I’m pretty sure pictures and happiness will be forthcoming as I’m going to see Kitty Wood Photography– I have the honour of being one of her bridesmaids this year and couldn’t be more excited.

Blogwise, I can’t believe the response I had to my post about what models eat!! So many shares, so many comments! Thankyou all- and I have now updated the original post with the promised advice from Juliette at Bareskin Beauty. Click here to have a read, and I’ll be back with more modelly advice soon.
For now, I’m writing a mini series of articles about life on a boat for a fantastic feminist/life/opinion website. :D If there’s anything you would like to know, just comment with your question and I’ll make sure I answer it. I’m already covering narrowboat basics, decor for tiny spaces and more.
Despite the title of this post, I’m still feeling quite domesticated; spending my evenings toasting in front of the fire with a stack of books, or painting my doors at long last. At the moment, I’m in love with the artwork the band “Of Monsters and Men” use in their videos so I feel there will be wild things coming soon to a wall near me!
If you don’t know the band or haven’t seen the videos, links are below.

It makes me laugh that ‘domesticated’ for me is still kind of strange for a lot of other people- I still run around with no clothes on getting my picture taken and watch the world out of coach, train and plane windows. I still live in an indoor forest (which is swinging around like mad right now- the storm’s howling!) and I still walk around in clothes straight out of your end-of-days Zack Snyder fantasy. In fact, if you want to know more about my everyday life (believe me, modelling is just the beginning), you can start by following this Instagram… ;) https://www.instagram.com/lifeoutthereblog/
On that note, I went to Sweden a while ago. I had a crack-of-dawn flight so pulled a coffee fuelled all-nighter in the airport. Awesome fellow fetish model Psylocke met me off the plane, introduced me to her cats and went for her photoshoot while I got reacquainted with Swedish sweets. One exciting text later and I was off to meet photographer Belinda Bartzner and see a musical about HP Lovecraft… in Swedish. Just so you know, “A Shoggoth on the Roof” rocks- and is pretty easy to understand even when you can only understand the word ‘tentacles’.
The next day (after some world-class sleeping and cat snuggling), Belinda and I worked together for the first time! (She’s since become a good friend so these pictures bring back happy memories).

I’m wearing a custom-made Dawnamatrix playsuit. :D

Tomorrow, it’s boat-painting, email-answering and preparing for a pancake party with a goddess of cosplay! :D

Bedtime now, I think. *eyes the stack of books excitedly*

What do models eat?

24 Jan

If you don’t care what I’m watching, eating or doing at the moment then scroll to the bottom for the rest of the set. I hope you’ll read though. :P
Roswell (39 of 92)

I’m excited to begin modelling again next week after a long writing-related absence! I have now set up a second blog (yes, really. I’ll tell you more soon!) and finished writing two stories for inclusion in two separate anthologies. (I’ve been a busy lady over here!) ;)
I’ve also had time to catch up on some shows and books I never had the time to look at. (Including True Blood- thankyou so much to the wonderful person who sent me series 1. Mail me with your address and I’ll send you a thankyou card!) At the moment, I’m watching a lot of documentaries and TED talks. I hate the name “TED talks”- it stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design but sounds like a cutesy childs’ book about a morally-upstanding stuffed bear. Still, the talks are fascinating- from how the brain works, to fetishes and phobias, to art interpretation.
Here are some on my favourite ones, in case you are interested!
Underwater cave diving!
We only hear one story
Do schools kill creativity?

Even if I didn’t have a diary, I’d know it’s January as I get a rise in personal messages around this time- I’m most often asked how to get into modelling and what my fitness regime is as a curvy woman. I’ve set up a FAQ page for the first question but I’m going to talk about the second one here:

I can’t find any pictures of me wearing yoga pants, laughing and eating salad so instead have a giant selection of toffee apples.
WP_20131124_028

If you Google “what do models…” it will predict that the next word is ‘eat’. (Or ‘really eat’, ‘do’, eat to stay skinny’, or ‘do to work out’). Well, I’ve seen some models eat burgers and fries, others have a very healthy diet with treats allowed, others eat virtually nothing while chugging black coffee and sugar water. (Okay, that was one other- but we all know that’s common in the fashion industry, which I’m glad I’m not part of.)
My point is that models diets are ridiculously varied. If you want to get fit, check out lifestyle tips from personal trainers and dieticians instead. Fitness and health is their business after all! :)

I’m naturally very curvy and do not put on muscle easily. I zoom around the planet almost constantly and due to a severe (but manageable) phobia of vomiting, I find eating food in unfamiliar places stressful. You may have a different lifestyle which my way of life would not suit so this advice is mostly for the curious. Still, here is what THIS model eats and does to exercise:

1) My fitspiration
Getting a lean thin body is unattainable for me without a starvation diet and surgery to minimise my curves, so it’s pointless for me to want one! Instead, my ‘fitspiration’ pictures are of curvy toned women so I’m not setting myself up for failure before I even pick the weights up. I hate working out so do short bursts of weights, long walks and yoga/contortion practice. I would be doing martial arts but that doesn’t work with modelling! ;)
Advice:
– If you have inspiration pictures of the way you would like to look, think about whether they are attainable. If they aren’t, forget them and find better ones.
:)
– Look at the ridiculous DVD cover below. I am sure the exercises DO help tone your stomach but you will not get results like this. The ‘before’ picture is an unflattering candid shot of her leaning forward and not sucking in. The ‘after’ picture is studio-lit, posed and retouched. You CAN lose weight and tone up if you would like to, but you can’t spot-reduce fat. Also, if you add muscle, you are likely to put on weight rather than losing it. Look at the way your clothes fit, not the scales and not this stupid DVD!

2) Starting again
I had a ‘fitness fresh start’ a year ago and booked a consultation with Juliette of Bareskin Beauty to give me a starting point to work from. Juliette specialises in holistic* skincare and nutrition , so I told her everything there is to know about my lifestyle and diet! In return, she gave me a fantastic plan full of advice. While treatments can be expensive this is an investment in the body that needs to last a lifetime, very worth it and I would highly recommend her.
* Treating the body as a whole unit rather than a bunch of separate symptoms.
Advice: If you’re feeling ‘all at sea’, it is worth asking for professional help and support to give you a kickstart.
I also asked Juliette what her top tips are for staying healthy, and here they are!

“I passionately believe that skin and hair vitality comes from within, so nourish the body and you will glow like a goddess from the inside out.

1) If you make one change this year to your diet, eat a rainbow of raw plant-based foods (aka phytonutrients) every day. These sources of antioxidants also contain vitamin C for collagen and elastin production, vitamin A (retinol) for cell health, and sulphur for strong connective tissue.

2) Your digestive system is like the soil that your hair and skin grow in; if the soil isn’t healthy, the plants won’t bloom properly. For perfect health we need a 80:20 split of good and bad bacteria.
21st Century living strips the body of good bacteria and allows bad bacteria to reign supreme leading to a host of health issues and skin concerns. Re-populate the gut with good bacteria by eating and drinking probiotic foods. My favourites include green leafy vegetables, sea vegetables and raw milk. I also take probiotic supplements.

3) Fat is Good! We cannot absorb and utilise nutrients without eating omega 3 fats, which are vital for a healthy brain, heart, nervous system, digestive system, and at a cellular level for effective and healthy cell division. Foods naturally rich in omega 3 fatty acids include dark green leafy vegetables, raw walnuts, wild salmon, flax seeds, free-range eggs. Healthy foods naturally rich in flavonoids include lettuce, cherries and raw chocolate!

4) Processed sugar is the most ageing substance on the planet; it binds with collagen and elastin molecules and literally sucks the life force out of them, reducing the structure and elasticity of your skin. Age and liver spots are formed when sugar and collagen react repeatedly over time. Natural forms of sugar that work in synergy with the body include: raw honey, yacon root syrup, green stevia, dried figs or other dried fruits.

5) I recommend a 6-week trial of a gluten-free diet that excludes wheat, rye, and barley to restore vitality and clear skin. The gluten-containing form of grains that are available today have been so interfered with by the food industry, that the body cannot digest and metabolise them, leading to chronic internal inflammation that will manifest as poor skin and hair loss.

There you go!

We’re human and Krispy Kreme exists so don’t beat yourself up for eating badly occasionally but the more you try to keep a consistently good diet, the less you crave processed things. At least, that’s my experience.

Here’s a no-make-up-selfie of me on my way to a shoot
WP_20141214_002

3) What I eat
I experiment with food as much as I can and know that carbs like pasta and bread make me bloat if I eat them too often, so my carbs mostly come from lentils and beans (which give me extra protein too). I eat a tonne of fruit and veg (at least six portions a day) and am mostly pescetarian (no meat except for fish). I drink as much water as I possibly can, am a herbal tea wizard and my favourite treats are coffee ice cream, tortellini and pizza with loads of garlic oil and mozzarella.
Advice:
– ‘Superfoods’ are expensive and once they’ve had their 15 minutes of fame, they’re shoved aside in favour of the new miracle food. We all know fruit and veg are healthy so don’t worry if they’re super. Bright colours- kale, berries (you can buy frozen ones cheaply), spinach, bell peppers etc are all good and you can make a lot using chopped tomatoes as a base.
– Don’t cook veg for too long! It turns to the tasteless mush of school dinner nightmares

– Drink water- it keeps your skin cells plump and hydrated and helps your immune system flush out the bad stuff.

Om nom nom
WP_20141214_029

4) Sugar
I try to stick to dark chocolate and fruit and when I cut out other sugars, my tastebuds changed. I now find when I do allow myself to eat anything I want, I don’t want sugary things so much as bread rolls and pate or cheese! Sure, cheese isn’t amazing for me but it’s better than an entire bag of jellybeans.
Advice: Do what you feel works for you- this is just my way. :)

5) Saving money
For me, the early months are full of expenditures so I save money in any way I can. Food (especially protein) can be expensive!
Advice:
– buy versatile food like carrots rather than cucumber. You can eat carrots hot or cold, as a snack or in a main meal. Same with celery and bell peppers.
– I’m hugely against factory farming animals so if I can’t buy free range meat for the rare occasions I eat it then I won’t buy meat at all. Tofu, free range eggs, lentils and beans are all high in protein and a lot cheaper than a steak.
– Most things can be eaten after their sell-by date. Due to my phobia, I won’t go more than a day or two and not at all with fish, but check the reduced aisles for things approaching their date and freeze them if you can for later.

Free stuff from the orchard! :D
WP_20140902_006

The above was mostly to satisfy the curious about the way I eat and exercise. I’m not a fitness professional and modelling has made me appreciate beauty in a wide variety of forms so…..
tumblr_mjrplzjMcw1rv1ubro1_500

One last piece of advice: Always check your spices- garam masala looks a LOT like cinnamon and does not taste as nice in coffee. I speak from personal experience. *shudder*…

So I did a shoot last year wearing Piranha Latex Couture and I was waiting to an occasion to post the pictures!
Photographer wishes to remain mysterious but has given me permission to post these images… unedited!! Perfect for a blog about natural beauty.

Belgium and the ‘latex brat’!

24 Nov

I completed NaNoWriMo!!! I decided to edit two books I’d already written rather than take on yet another book in a month with two tours in it, but I completed the 50,000 words of editing today and am chilling in bed with tea, diamante and lace (making something for a shoot) and 90s films.

NaNo-2015-Winner-Badge-Large-Square.jpg
See? Did it.

I arrived back from Belgium about 24 hours before the places I had just been visiting were put on lockdown. I’m sending all my love and best wishes to my friends back over there. Stay safe. <3

I was pleased to see a lovely display of openness, generosity and solidarity from Milton Keynes Muslims when I went to town at the weekend. A giant banner with #NotInMyName and people standing ready to chat about life, the universe and everything, even though it was freezing! When I was at school, I remember religious discussions were often led by people we knew (for example our Muslim computer technician who was a familiar face around school and someone we could ask as many questions as we wanted. This was before Islamophobia became rife as far as I know, as this memory is from when I was about eight years old!)
It was nice to share snacks, photos and life stories with open-minded friendly people before my bus arrived.

Here are a couple of my travelling pictures from this Belgium trip!

The view from my shooting apartment in Brussels- the sunset made the buildings opposite look like opals!

I was staying with fellow model Riona Noire, her husband and menagerie of animals (with varying degrees of snuggliness). :D
If you do not know Riona then you should click the link above and look at her, as she is awesome, beautiful and has some top secret projects going on that she can’t talk about. The suspense is killing me! :P

While I was in Antwerp, I shot for KinkyStyle again- yay! Photographer Patrick is always a lot of fun to work with- we rarely plan outfits in advance so both turn up with cases of latex to choose from and bounce ideas around. I really like getting the chance to play different characters and last time we worked together he brought a latex hoodie, a pink top with “BITCH” across it and some fingerless gloves. As I rarely do ‘cute’, I had to try the outfit on…
WP_20150319_18_10_07_Pro.jpg
And it fit! :D

So let me present… THE LATEX BRAT!

I’m thinking about carrying a few packs of stick-on fake nails to any non-nude shoot- I’d have loved some really pointy pink ones with little bows on them for this set!

This time, we managed five different looks! As I make a lot of my own clothing I wanted to show my own style a little more, so wore a black latex bodysuit with New Rock boots, my holster bag from Jungle Tribe and my homemade Winter coat. No full length pictures yet, so have some selfies!

As it’s past midnight here in England and I’m surrounded by glittery things, I’m going to put the kettle on and sign off! There’s a beautiful rainstorm tonight and I can hear it pounding on the roof. :)

Goodnight all,

ROSWELL xxx

p.s. Are you doing a longterm project that feels like an uphill battle? Spare a thought for this guy! He’d been trying for 6 YEARS to photograph a diving kingfisher… and he finally got it!
I’ve very jealous as there is a kingfisher at the marina and I watched him catch a fish the other day. I have a soft spot for them as I think they’re the closest thing to hummingbirds we have in England- weeny jewel coloured things that squeak. <3

A Tale of Two Captions.

11 Nov

Isn’t it odd sometimes how something that had been personal to you becomes a subject of discussion overnight!?

I found out today that Essena O’Neill, a young “Instagram Model” with a huge social media following but who I had never heard of, has also quit the ‘numbers’ game and is drawing attention to the faker aspects of the ‘Instagram lifestyle’- a brave thing to do when “real” has been the buzzword of the past few years! (see rant here)
Essena had made a living from posting on Instagram to her million followers tagging a designer or company, while charging the company $100+ per photo. If you’re business-minded and have a lot (and I mean a LOT) of followers, you can make a living this way.) The problem is, it takes a hell of a lot of time and fakery to keep up the illusion that the photos are natural candid shots. No business involved- this is just your life.

As I realised back in September, judging the quality of your life on how many followers, likes and comments you have is no way to measure your happiness. And I don’t even make a living from my social media! I can only imagine what it must be like to spend fifty hours a week carefully constructing your facebook ‘persona’. Knowing that you are no longer being cast for your personality or talent, but for how many people have clicked ‘like’ on your page is soul destroying and it *is* happening.

So why the hell do we obsessively watch the numbers?
Perhaps it is harder to trust our memories these days- maybe we feel a hundred likes on a photo reminds us that we had a good time at that moment instead of merely remembering it, no photos taken. Has the joke “pictures or it didn’t happen” become the truth after all?
It’s easy to play the numbers game in the short term but in a few years I want to remember the things I’ve done, not the things I’ve done to get ten more followers. The adventures, the joy. Whether I can quantify it or not. Respect to Essena for learning that at eighteen- it took me a decade longer! ;) <3

So I have the perfect shoot to illustrate my philosophical rambling! Kitty Wood is an awesome photographer and there’s not much I wouldn’t do during a shoot with her. Including, it turns out, jump into an unheated outdoor swimming pool in October…

BUT… this is what I’d say if I was a “social media model” (this term is used throughout this post and is not meant in a derogatory manner):
Just chilling in the pool in a unique latex/lace bra and samba pants by Lady Allura.” (hashtag “ilovemylife”)
IMG_0236
Now, if you don’t know already, I’m more road warrior than screen siren but one thing I love about modelling is still getting to play in the dressing up box as a grown-up! BUT… the caption implies that this is what I wear on my days off… and that the pool is warm! (and mine). The closest thing I have to a pool is the canal and I’m not going in there for a shoot. Not even for Kitty. :P

Despite the inevitable discomfort, I loved this shoot. I always get into crazy adventures with Kitty and also got to work with Alivya Free– a model/designer whose work I have admired for a long time. We got on like a house on fire so I hope she’ll make an appearance on this blog again!

*cough* October *cough*
Seriously though, I love this behind-the-scenes shot.

We warmed up with hot chocolate and snacks, then as Alivya is a similar size to me and had brought two outfits from Kaori’s Latex Dreams, we did a latex set together! Then while Alivya switched outfits, I put on another Lady Allura bra and brought sexy back. ;)
I actually can’t think of a silly status to put here as what you see was what happened. With girl chat and gurning in between. :P
p.s. The red lips on Alivya’s dress are 3D rubber! Mwah!

I often work with Louise Ferdinand– designer of lingerie for curvy girls like me. This time, I’d been sent a set to photograph with a natural look.

“I guess I should get up but my bed is just soooo comfy!” (hashtag “nomakeupselfie”)
IMG_0532
This is indeed a comfy bed but it isn’t mine. :) We also picked this room as the pretty jewel blue bedcovers would contrast nicely with my hair and the background was cool and minimal. I took my make-up down to a natural look so that the focus is on the lingerie not my honking great bazookas. Being curvy, I have to think ‘soft’ rather than ‘sexy’ on this kind of shoot, otherwise things can get a bit “lads mag” and we don’t want that here.

The headdress was designed and made by Alivya herself!
IMG_0598
IMG_0585

After all three of us had shot all we could shoot and were worn out, we plonked ourselves on the bed for gossip, jokes and general awesomeness before Alivya headed home and Kitty and I went pet-snuggling, pizza eating and disturbing documentary watching.

That’s a wrap, folks! Unless you want m ore? In which case, check out Kitty’s video of the shoot!

Obviously, I do not mean to imply that all of us active on social media (myself included) are faking everything about our lives- just that there is often a lot of work involved in even the most natural-looking and effortless of photos. I’ve seen a lot of bitchiness towards Essena for her lifestyle choices- remember she’s eighteen! Besides that, social media models don’t sit around all day taking a spontaneous selfie or three of their idyllic lives- there’s a hell of a lot of branding and time spent on what is, after all, a business. No matter what the caption suggests. :)

Now, I just hit 10,000 words on NaNoWriMo but I’m still behind so I’m going to slam into the writing for an hour, then it’s bedtime (6am call time tomorrow- eek!)

p.s. I’ll leave you with this…

Hello again!

This year has gone so quickly that it’s my birthday month already! How about that??! What I would most love for my birthday is to hit 6500 fans on facebook, so sharing my page would be much appreciated.
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Roswell-Ivory-model-and-writer/152654844767588
I do have a wishlist for anyone who would like to give me a gift even though your presence here is valued just as much as presents. It’s here:  http://www.amazon.co.uk/registry/wishlist/GL98WLTXKM9
Some leotards in there, because I can now do the human pretzel pose and I’d like to stay (relatively) modest, lol! As some of you will know, any gift buyer gets a personalised thankyou from me. ;)

<3 <3 <3

So I got a picture back from the German Fetish Ball, from my lovely Belinda Bartzner. I’m wearing Yummy Gummy, with a Pandora Deluxe harness over the top. Hair and make-up by me.

Well, here’s the spread!

I’m travelling so much that I am almost fully booked until November! If you would like to book while the weather is beautiful, please get in touch and check my casting call for my free days. They’re listed here: http://purpleport.com/castings/121053/Last-days-available-until-November—/

I’m off to spend the rest of the day sewing and packing- have a lovely Sunday, everyone!
