Well, wow. I’m already so booked for the Netherlands, that I am considering extending the trip (which means cutting short Belgium or Germany so if you’re there and want a booking, get in touch ASAP!)!
I’m off to Ireland tomorrow night too. This is going to sound strange but before all the “gate opening” and rushing around business, I love airports! I like being able to sit with my coffee and peoplewatch. It feels so strange that only 60 or so years ago, people got dressed up for flights in the same way one would for an extravagant dinner. It is pretty amazing being able to jump on a plane and be in another country by the end of the day- the only problem for me is that I can’t dress up as much as I’d like as I’ve found the staff don’t like it when everything you’re wearing contains metal.

I hope the weather is lovely in Ireland- it’s so grey at the moment and I’d love some sunshine and warmth. If it’s going to rain in May, I want a proper thunderstorm to go with it, please! Funnily enough, I actually posed for these happy sunny photos last November but as they were for publication, I couldn’t share them until now. I’m very excited to be so inspired with writing at the moment. The ‘problem’ is that the weather is beautiful and I feel a bit guilty for sticking myself inside. I took the long route back to the mothership the other day so that I could walk through the park, which is filled with giant oak trees standing in twos. As yesterday was Beltane (second-biggest pagan festival and said to be a time when the veil between the  worlds opens), the trees did look like sentinels and as I turned around on the spur of the moment, there was a kestrel hovering a few metres behind me. Couldn’t get a picture of him, but I did get these…

I popped out to the garden to have a quick walk around and am now watching the fat round sparrows in the hedge and one solitary swallow sitting on the telegraph wire. They sound as happy as I will be tomorrow. I’m off on a ‘cake date’ with one of my best ladies!
I’ve decided to be a night owl tonight and wait for the sun to go down before I hit the writing again. I promise you’ll get an extract soon.

Now, as I’ve been latexing you to death recently, have some awesome nudes taken by Gary Breckheimer during my last New York trip. I actually wrote an “alt” city review about New York that I just reread and for once am still happy with. Tonight, I’m going to look for a magazine or website interested in publishing it and if not, you guys can see it anyway!

So… these were taken at around 5am; the earliest I had been wandering around central New York, which was a little freaky as the sun wasn’t up when I left. It was a “shoot and run” situation- setting up the shot, checking nobody was around and then dashing off as fast as possible. Some of the shots (I’m thinking especially of my favourite- the mouse one) felt more like a special military operation, or the escape scene in Minority Report- involving ducking behind large objects, waiting until I was out of eyeline, and turning to walk in the other direction as soon as the shot was taken, as though nothing had happened.

Don’t you just LOVE this freaky mouse!!!!?? It’s like a nightmare- I love it!

It’s one of my goals this year to be published more, so I was very excited when I opened a photography book and found myself in it! The picture is at the top, called “Veiling The Nude”, and it’s by Brian Hopper. (Excuse the cameraphone photo.)

I’m only 11 votes away from 800, and it’s quite exciting to be in the top 10% of models on such a well-respected site. On my way to Scotland, I did stop to see the lovely Pirate Photography and shoot a set or two in between hot-tub parties, cookie munching and girl chat. I may even start shooting some sets of my own, though they’ll probably be make-up tutorials or something similar.

So… yes, purple. This was shot by Pirate Photography just down the road from my old house. Wig/Make-up by me. Dress has no label and was bought second-hand a long time ago,so I’m afraid I don’t know whose it is.

I don’t know why but the 5th photo feels a little steampunky to me! Maybe it’s the spiky hair and the circle of eye make-up reminding me of goggles??
Then again, it could be because I’m in the middle of the second part of a steampunk short story trilogy…

While I was away, I visited the Elephant House cafe in Edinburgh, which was a lovely place to eat baked potatoes with hummus and drink soy lattes (they did have homemade cakes too but I resisted their siren call). It also happened to be the place JK Rowling wrote a lot of Harry Potter, and Ian Rankin also wrote. I’ll tell you all about it next entry.

I usually try not to put writing pressure on myself while I’m away but this time, the words just came and I managed about twenty pages (longhand) of my second novel and about twelve of the aforementioned steampunk story, which is about a conman, a detective and a mysterious machine. I’m having great fun with it as half takes place in Victorian-esque high society and half in a circus freakshow.
I may post an extract from”The Indigo Glass” (the first installment) if I’m feeling brave enough.

I have to go and make dinner now- mmmmm… minestrone…

Oh, viewers, I’ve been neglecting you! I had some fantastic news about my writing and so I dropped everything in order to meet a scary deadline. Pleased to say that the deadline was in fact, today and I made it!!! I have finished my second draft (which is the final major draft) of my novel so I can now stop ending entries with “got to go- I’m stuck on Chapter Nine”!

So, what other news can I tell you? Well, I’ve lost half a stone and that’s what I’d like to tell you all about today.
Now, if somebody large enough to be considered unhealthy by today’s society decides to lose weight, the world is in general, supportive. However, as a model and person of about average (maybe a little smaller than average) size, I find that if I mention toning up, losing weight or exercising, I find myself fielding the same questions on a regular basis. Now, I could rant, but as I’ve already had one of those recently and am feeling happy today, I’m going to take the time to have a chat about it all…

“What diet are you following?”
I do not believe diets promote sustainability so what I have done is change my entire lifestyle:
- Exercise as many days as possible (if it’s a busy day, leave it and don’t feel bad)
- Drink more water
- Begin each day with a green smoothie.
- Cut down on dairy significantly
- Cut out sweet things entirely, with the exception of fruit.

“Is this due to industry pressure?”
Yes, and no.
I am capable of quite surprising greed. (I do not mean ‘three chocolates and a diet Coke”- I mean I am capable of eating an entire tub of ice cream in one go. Not that I do this any more, but I have been known to. Mostly as a student…) Ignoring the potential weight gain for a moment, this is not a balanced or healthy way of living. When I’m writing, I spend all day on my butt in front of the computer and get no exercise at all, which is also less-than-healthy. Therefore, no. I’m doing this for me.
However, I see nude pictures of myself almost daily which form a relatively accurate ‘size diary’. If I am untoned, I do not find myself as attractive as when I am toned. I am naturally very curvy with large muscular thighs, therefore I will usually be bigger than most models I am paired with. As long as I am toned and healthy like a comic book heroine, I can accept this. However, if my muscles are hidden under a little bit of fat and I’ve eaten badly all month, then of course I feel self-conscious. In this way, yes- I am doing this so I look better in my images and I do not feel this is a bad thing.

“You don’t want to look like Kate Moss, do you?”
If I wanted to resemble Kate Moss, I would snort my bodyweight in cocaine, stop giving the impression I have any grey matter between my ears and purr “get the London look” at regular intervals. (Not a Moss fan here- can you tell?)
In all seriousness though, I am losing fat in order to show off the toned muscles underneath. I am not trying to change my body shape. I have breasts, a bum and thighs. Unless I became very very ill, this would not change no matter how thin I got.

“But you’re beautiful as you are!”
That is so very kind of you, and thankyou! I really do appreciate the sentiment, but I would like to be a little- just a little- smaller, and so I am working hard to achieve that.

Most people who spend a lot of time online know about what people like Dawn Porter call “that SHOCKING trend for… ugh… ‘thinspiration’. Oh… oh my god, I can’t BELIEVE IT!” Basically, it is inspiration for people with eating disorders- words, pictures, GIFs etc that encourage unhealthy weight loss.
However, I discovered FITspiration by accident a little while ago and have enjoyed following blogs and saving images ever since. It is what I would call an antidote to thinspiration- promoting health and exercise over weight loss, though there are some good weight loss ones too. I’d like to share some of my “fit folder” images with you.

The scene is set by taking you- the reader- right there to the centre of the action and adorning the paragraph with words like ‘terrifying’ and ‘sweaty’. “Loosen up”, says the patient photographer. Did he also rub his knees and purr “oh yeah, baby- you’re gonna be a STAR!”?

‘Anonymous’ was a twenty year old student when she first ‘took her clothes off for money’. Apparently, this may seem sordid- well, it certainly does now! Even more so as she introduces us to her friend ‘Tania’ (a pseudonym) who made some money “art modelling” for photographers. I wonder if it was a deliberate attempt to be bitchy, or a way of keeping Tania’s modesty by putting the words in quotation marks… Either way, the writer takes great pains to let us know that she was desperate for money.

First myth: While many girls may start by looking for some quick money, they learn very fast that modelling is not as easy as it looks and when you’re one in thousands of pretty girls, you need to stand out and take the time to either learn your trade or give up. One gripe I hear from photographers concerns girls who do two photoshoots and then try to charge £100 per hour. Often, the girls are misled- somebody has told them that they can earn hundreds from one shoot and so off they go- after all, if you’re doing it for money, you want to maximise your earnings, right? However, if you’re earning enough to make a consistent full-time living from this industry, you have most likely spent a considerable amount of time networking, practising posing, taking care of yourself and building up a client base. Though I could be wrong, as our friend ‘Anonymous’ says “I learned the tricks of the trade within a few weeks.”

So she joined Modelmayhem- good move. Networking sites are invaluable for getting a career started, though I’m not sure how she discerned which clients were “men with lucrative jobs who were willing to invest heavily in their ‘new photography hobby’”. There are those speech marks again…

“Despite this, I didn’t stop. The money was too good. After a while I raised my rate to $100/hour. Between interning, writing papers, and extra-curricular activities, I believed that I had no other choice if I wanted to be financially secure.” This sentence worries me for it tends to appear in tearful articles with names like “I was a teenage prostitute”. Now, I think we should do what makes us happy. In theory, I have no problem with stripping or porn so long as everyone is keeping safe and there because they want to be. To take on a job like that due to lack of money?? I feel that that is the line between fun and degrading. (And yes, I speak from experience- as a poor student myself, I walked out of an interview at a lapdancing club. I couldn’t do it- I preferred to work in a sandwich shop for less money and retain my dignity*).
*NOTE: I felt undignified because it passed my personal boundaries- not because of the nature of the work.

Poor ‘Anonymous’ regarded her body as a money making tool, which included keeping her hair long and not shaving her pubic hair. Why? “Most people don’t believe me when I say this, but a nude art model getting a Brazilian bikini wax is career suicide”.

I don’t believe you.

Yes, if being unshaven is your USP (unique selling point), then yes it may be a bad idea to employ a lady-gardener, but for an established nude model, there is very little that is truly career ending so long as you know how to market yourself, with the exception, possibly maybe, of getting a large tattoo.

Now, I’ll be the first to tell you that the more people you work with, the greater the chance of having a bad experience. It happens, sadly, but rarely. If you’re a regular follower of this blog, you’ll have heard it all before from me- there are ways to minimise your chances of such a thing. Our writer mentions the photographers who wanted to pay her for sex. Call it a hunch, but I feel that there’s a way she could have kept such propositions to a minimum. I never mentioned it due to the possibility of stating the obvious but…
Don’t have sex with photographers!!! Especially (and she quotes) “numerous photographers”. Models talk, photographers talk, stylists talk and iin the words of all those wartime posters, “careless talk costs lives”. Now, talk about career suicide! While it may increase your chances of being booked, it’ll be for the wrong reasons and the ‘mostly creeps’ statement will take on a knee-rubbing, purring life of its’ own- a side-effect being numerous propositions!
Now, when people socialise with other industry professionals on a regular basis, relationships do start (it’s why teachers always seem to marry other teachers!) but unless you’re sure, it’s generally best not to have sex with numerous photographers.
I never thought I’d have to say that!

And so we reach the end of our article, with a consciously poignant moment involving regret and some polaroids in a box. It’s a sad ending. I wish the writer all the best in her chosen path, but hope she can one day look upon her experiences without regret. I’m not claiming to have followed my career path perfectly- I’ve done things that were dumb as a brush, but I hope that when I’m no longer modelling, I will not only have my polaroids in a box but on my wall.

For now though, I’m going to be incredibly subversive and illustrate this ranty little blog with my clothes on!

I’ve been thinking of this set as ‘Fireflies’- the sun was so, so hot I thought my latex was going to ignite, and though I didn’t see the little dust shafts at the time, I love that they’re here in the finished pictures. Magical!

It was while thinking about writing this blog that I realised I hadn’t posted any ‘classic Roswell’ art-nude images in a while- so I found this lovely set by Tim Pile which haven’t been on here before. We had a lovely day shooting among standing stones in the wilds of Dartmoor before this studio day so I can’t wait to return to the area of course. I do love my standing stones…

These images were taken in Stuart House- a lovely hidden-away place near Cornwall.

Looking at these pics make me a very happy lady- I’m going to talk about it in an upcoming blogpost, but I’ve spent the past year or so working on improving my body, which has included losing quite a bit of weight (these pics- especially the 3rd one- are an accurate representation of how I look now). But that’s another story… all about nutrition and food and colours!

Now, a couple of entries back, I was talking about how horror films aren’t too scary these days. A few minutes ago, I put my words on a Ryvita with houmous and ate them. Sort of.
I watched “Splice” last night, which is something I’ve wanted to see for ages but my sci-fi friends weren’t keen on the horror aspect and my horror friends saiid ‘eurgh, sci-fi.’ Long story short, no one wanted to go. It definitely is more sci-fi than horror, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t scary. I think it depends very much on what frightens you more:
Imaginary Scenario 1: A character is hiding from something. You can’t see it, they can’t see it but you know that any second, it’s going to appear and make you jump out of your seat. Any second, any second, any second. ARGH!!! You jumped anyway.
Imaginary Scenario 2: A character is hiding from something or someone. They can’t see it, but behind them in a pool, you see a head appear, and shoulders, and finally it moves closer and closer as you scrunch up in your seat so you are very small.

For me, while I jump very easily, the second scene is creepier, and this is what Splice is full of. You know something bad is going to happen- something bad is always going to happen when you play around with genetics and hybrids, but it’s still like watching a car crash that you just can’t stop as more and more bad things get pulled into the wreck.

One thing that should be mentioned: It is disturbing. Very disturbing. I’m talking mutilation and sexual violence, and eventually I was unsure exactly who to feel sorry for. I just watched an interview with one of the actresses, who mentioned the difficulty of only having two words in the entire film, but, wow. She manages to convey everything with body language and you want to take care of the character, even when she behaves badly. Given that this character though the entire film behaves in a certain way, it makes one particular scene even more disturbing (and I think you have to watch the whole film to understand so I won’t post it here).
The ending… yep, creepy but something about it just didn’t ring true. If you’ve seen the film and disagree, come and have an argument (just kidding- no arguing here).
So… yes, if you’re looking for scary films, check out that one.

She was horrified but I think I’d think it was hilarious if it happened to me!
I now pose for a lot of life drawing classes, which is a little nervewracking (always worried I’ll sneeze or my stomach will rumble!) but interesting getting to see the styles other people have.

After a class, artist Dan Stepanek booked me for a painting session! First, he took some pictures of me, then projected them onto the wall and took some more with me posing in front of them- much fun! He sent me a picture of one of the paintings recently- here you go!

I’ve not been online much recently as I’m working on my novel (due to send off on March 31st). Today’s been a good day- a quarter of a chapter done. Bad days consist of constant fridge raiding and internet checking. Not doing so well now as life has imitated internet art…

but I’m positive for tomorrow.

Now, I posted on my facebook* page earlier today asking what I should blog about today. I actually have a blog saved up about inspiration (sort of) which I’m holding for a couple of days along with a post about why Carol Vorderman drives me insane, but another lovely fan would like to hear something funny. Now, that I can do right now!
Guess what happened the other day? Well… I won a Mills and Boon novel in a poetry contest for writing a poem called “Bus Love”. It involved people having sex in the back of a bus and could be the most ridiculous thing I have ever written (and won, lol!)

Still, it made my night (along with chocolate cake and hanging out with the lovely Anita De Bauch (who got a round of applause for being in love- yay!)and Madame Bink. We were watching Bink’s musician fiance Jack Broadbent play at a music and poetry night.)
Here they are- Bink being fluffy and gorgeous, Jack really isn’t a street preacher no matter what this picture suggests, and Anita reflecting in the window like a sexy 50s ghost!

Later in the week, I broke Anita while stretching together (never fear- she’s fine!) and gave myself a mohican for a shoot. Here we are with guest appearance by Lilith the hairless cat.

Wow, I went off on a bit of a tangent there!

I was just sorting out the photos I’m about to post when I got into the horror discussion and my mind went off imagining things… So I imagined a futuristic character living in her own mind and beginning to forget who she was before. It definitely wasn’t the thing on my mind while we were shooting, but isn’t it interesting the parallels you can draw when something triggers your thoughts in that direction?

I’m packing for a two-day booking in Spain at the moment- amazing the oufits and accessories that you forget you have! I’m looking forward to feeling the sun again, though it’s been beautiful in England these past couple of days. I had a really lovely day yesterday- listened to music on the train while watching for birds and animals, had a chilled-out shoot in a beautiful house in London, then watched the sunset over Windsor Castle as I arrived for my life-drawing class. (I was modelling- I can’t draw people!)

I’m back at the Mothership, lighting a fire to warm my freezy little bisexual hands. I got up late, as I’d had a late bisexual night, I ate my bisexual breakfast and now, I’m writing a bisexual blog entry. (And three guesses what I’m about to write about…)

For those of you who don’t know or aren’t in the UK, I’m very proud of my country today as UK MPs have voted in favour of legalising gay marriage by a landslide. Currently, gay people are allowed to have what is called a “civil ceremony/civil partnership”. It entitles couples to the same legal rights as a “married” couple, but is not called a marriage. Until recently, civil ceremonies could not be conducted in places of worship and did not include religious texts or hymns.

I have enormous respect for the real, historical Jesus Christ, in the same way that I respect the teachings of the Buddha and the Dalai Lama as I believe that all religions have something good to teach the world. In light of this, I believe that a man who preached an overwhelming message of love no matter what and defended marginalised members of society (at that time) would be disgusted at the hypocrisy his legacy has sometimes provoked. Jesus himself said nothing about gay people, and the two people in the Bible who mentioned it in any way also preached a whole lot of crazy that is now discarded. The MPs who used outdated quotes to vote against this ruling have no valid argument. None.
Anyway, back to my bisexual coffee…

One of the best things I have read is a statement by Liz Feldman:
“It is very dear to me- the issue of gay marriage- or as I like to call it, ‘marriage’. You know, because I had lunch this afternoon, not gay lunch. I parked my car- I didn’t gay park it.”
The term is now ‘equal marriage’, I think. (And hopefully one day, it will just be ‘marriage’.

Well done, UK- I’m so proud of you!!!

You can’t tell from the pictures, but we were fighting against a mini-sandstorm and I kept getting blown around! Much fun though, as always. Berlin is most definitely one of my favourite cities- it’s the only place I could walk around dressed like that, with a bendy whip and not get stared at too much.

I’m off to have a chat with some magazine-y types now, so will speak to you soon.
Oh, and while I remember, I hear that a certain few fans of mine have been petitioning to put me on the cover of Skin Two. Thankyou guys, that is enormously flattering and utterly awesome. All I can say is keep it up, lol!! You’ll be the first to know if your advice is taken.
